Overview:
Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Brown’ is one of the most popular and reliable aquarium plants, valued for its rich brown to bronze-coloured leaves and compact growth habit. Its slightly ruffled foliage adds texture and warmth to planted aquariums, creating a natural, earthy look.
This variety is extremely versatile and works well in a wide range of aquascaping styles, from beginner-friendly planted tanks to more advanced nature-style layouts. When planted in groups, it forms dense, attractive clusters that contrast beautifully with green plants.
Care and Growth:
Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Brown’ thrives under low to moderate lighting and is well suited to low-tech aquariums. While CO₂ injection is not essential, it can encourage slightly faster growth and fuller foliage. A nutrient-rich substrate supports strong root development.
Like most Cryptocoryne species, it may experience initial “crypt melt” after planting or changes in water conditions. This is normal, and new leaves will grow once the plant has settled. Propagation occurs naturally via runners from the base of the plant.
