Overview:
Crinum thaianum, commonly known as the Onion Plant, is a striking and unusual aquarium plant, recognised for its bulb-like base and long, ribbon-shaped leaves that gently flow in the current. Its elegant movement adds a natural, dynamic feel to freshwater aquariums.
The distinctive bulb sits above the substrate while the leaves arch upward and outward, making it an excellent feature plant. It is especially popular in larger aquariums and low-tech setups.
Care and Growth:
Onion Plants thrive in low to medium lighting and do not require CO₂ injection, making them suitable for beginner aquariums. The bulb should be only partially buried in the substrate, with the top exposed to prevent rot.
Growth is slow but steady once established. Stable water conditions and gentle flow help maintain healthy leaf growth. Older leaves can be trimmed if needed.
