Physical Characteristics:

• Size: Gold Royal Plecos can grow to about 30-35 cm (12-14 inches) in length.
• Coloration: They are characterised by their vibrant golden body, which often features darker spots or patterns that can vary between individuals. This golden colouration can become more pronounced as they mature.
• Fins: Their fins are typically broad and well-developed, allowing for graceful swimming, and are often patterned similarly to the body.
• Shape: Gold Royal Plecos have a robust, elongated body with a flattened underside, which is typical of many species in the family Loricariidae.

Behavior:

• Temperament: Gold Royal Plecos are generally peaceful and can coexist well with a variety of tankmates. However, they may become territorial, especially as they mature.
• Activity Level: They are primarily nocturnal, preferring to forage and explore their environment during the night, but can also be seen during the day in well-lit tanks.

  • pH: They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water, with a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5.
  • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water, with a general hardness (GH) of 3-10 dGH, is ideal.
• Tank Setup:
  • Substrate and Decorations: A soft substrate is recommended to protect their sensitive bodies. Gold Royal Plecos appreciate a well-decorated tank with plenty of hiding spots, such as caves, driftwood, and plants, which help mimic their natural habitat.
  • Lighting: Moderate lighting is ideal for showcasing their colours without causing stress.

Breeding:
