The Angelicus Pleco (Hypancistrus sp.), also known as L-05, is a small, attractive catfish native to the lower Amazon River basin in Brazil. It is popular among aquarium enthusiasts for its distinctive appearance and manageable size.

Physical Characteristics:

• Size: Typically reaches a maximum length of 3.5 to 4 inches (approximately 9 to 10 cm).
• Coloration: Features a dark body with light-colored spots, giving it a starry appearance.
• Shape: Possesses a compact, robust body with a broad head and a flattened underside.

Behaviour:

• Temperament: Generally peaceful and can be kept in community tanks.
• Activity Level: Active, especially during the evening and night.
• Diet: Omnivorous; prefers meaty foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and sinking pellets.

Aquarium Care:

• Tank Size: A minimum of 30 gallons (approximately 114 liters) is recommended.
• Water Parameters:
  • Temperature: 23°C to 29°C (73°F to 84°F).
  • pH: 5.0 to 7.0.
  • Hardness: 18 to 215 ppm.
• Tank Setup: Provide plenty of hiding spots using rocks, driftwood, and plants. Ensure high oxygen levels and good water movement.

Compatibility:

The Angelicus Pleco is compatible with various community fish, including Discus and other bottom-dwelling species. However, it is advisable to avoid keeping it with particularly fast or aggressive tankmates, as it may not compete well for food.

Additional Notes:

While the Angelicus Pleco is not a wood eater, it is more carnivorous than algae-eating. Its small, lightly toothed mouth indicates it is a poor algae eater.
