• Coloration: They are characterised by their bright blue and green hues, with a striking iridescent quality that shimmers under light. Males tend to be more vibrant in colour compared to females.
• Fins: Their fins are relatively short and delicate, enhancing their graceful swimming style.
• Shape: Neon Dwarf Rainbows have a streamlined, oval-shaped body, typical of the rainbowfish family.

Behavior:

• Temperament: These fish are generally peaceful and can coexist with a variety of tankmates, making them suitable for community aquariums.
• Activity Level: Neon Dwarf Rainbows are active swimmers, often seen schooling and exploring their environment.
• Community Behavior: They thrive in groups and should ideally be kept in schools of at least six to enhance their natural behaviour and reduce stress.

• Water Parameters:
  • Temperature: Neon Dwarf Rainbows thrive in warm water, with an ideal temperature range of 22°C to 28°C (72°F to 82°F).
  • pH: They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water, with a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5.
  • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water, with a general hardness (GH) of 4-12 dGH, is ideal.
• Tank Setup:
  • Substrate and Decorations: A soft substrate is recommended, along with plenty of plants and hiding spots. Live plants such as Java fern, Vallisneria, and floating plants provide cover and mimic their natural habitat.
  • Lighting: Moderate lighting is ideal for showcasing their colours. Floating plants can help diffuse the light and create shaded areas.
  • Filtration: A gentle filtration system is recommended, as strong currents can stress the fish. Regular water changes (about 20% weekly) are essential for maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

Diet:

Neon Dwarf Rainbows are omnivorous and require a varied diet to thrive. Their diet should include:

• Pellets: High-quality flake or micro-pellets formulated for tropical fish should form the staple of their diet.
• Live or Frozen Foods: Offer live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms to provide essential protein and variety.

Tankmates:

Breeding:

Breeding Neon Dwarf Rainbows can be rewarding and relatively straightforward under the right conditions:

• Breeding Setup: A separate breeding tank with plenty of plants and gentle filtration is ideal. The water should be warm (around 26°C to 28°C or 79°F to 82°F) and slightly acidic (pH 6.5-7.0).
• Spawning Behavior: The females will lay eggs among the plants, and the males will fertilise them. After spawning, the adults should be removed to prevent them from eating the eggs.
• Fry Care: Once the fry are free-swimming, they can be fed infusoria or finely crushed flake food.
