Yellow Galaxy Super Delta Male Betta

The Yellow Galaxy Super Delta Male Betta is a stunning variant of *Betta splendens* known for its striking yellow coloration and impressive fin spread. This breed features a unique galaxy pattern that combines vibrant yellows with hints of blue and black, making it a popular choice among betta enthusiasts for its beauty and elegance in the aquarium.

Physical Characteristics:

  • Size: Yellow Galaxy Super Delta Bettas typically grow to about 6-7 cm (2.4-2.8 inches) in length, similar to other *Betta splendens* varieties.
  • Coloration: The most notable feature is their bright yellow body, often adorned with galaxy-like spots or patterns in blue and black, giving them a captivating and vibrant appearance.
  • Fins: The Super Delta tail can spread up to 180 degrees, providing a majestic look when fully flared. The fins are long and flowing, enhancing the overall grace of the fish.
  • Shape: The body is streamlined and muscular, characteristic of bettas, allowing for agile swimming.

Behaviour:

  • Temperament: Like all male bettas, the Yellow Galaxy Super Delta is territorial and can be aggressive toward other males. They will flare their fins and gills to assert dominance, and careful consideration should be given when housing them with other bettas.
  • Activity Level: These fish are active swimmers and enjoy exploring their environment, often displaying their full fin span when flaring.
  • Community Behaviour: While aggressive toward other males, they can be housed with peaceful tankmates that won’t provoke aggression or fin-nipping, making them suitable for community tanks with proper care.

Aquarium Care:

  • Tank Size: A minimum tank size of 10 liters (2.5 gallons) is recommended for a single Yellow Galaxy Super Delta Male Betta, although a larger tank (20 liters or more) is ideal for better water quality and more space to swim.
  • Water Parameters:
    • Temperature: They thrive in warm water, with an ideal temperature range of 24°C to 28°C (75°F to 82°F).
    • pH: Slightly acidic to neutral water is preferred, with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5.
    • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water, with a general hardness (GH) of 3-8 dGH, is ideal.
  • Tank Setup:
    • Substrate and Decorations: A soft, sandy substrate is recommended. Yellow Galaxy Super Delta Bettas appreciate a well-planted tank with plenty of hiding spots provided by live plants like Java fern, Anubias, or floating plants.
    • Lighting: Moderate lighting is ideal for showcasing their vibrant colours while not overwhelming them.
    • Filtration: A gentle filtration system is recommended, as strong currents can stress bettas. Regular water changes (about 20% weekly) are essential to keep the tank clean and healthy.

Diet:

Yellow Galaxy Super Delta Bettas are carnivorous and require a protein-rich diet to maintain their health and vibrant colours. Their diet should include:

  • Pellets: High-quality betta-specific pellets should form the staple of their diet.
  • Live or Frozen Foods: Offer live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia to provide essential protein and variety.
  • Occasional Treats: Freeze-dried bloodworms or tubifex worms can be offered occasionally but should not comprise the main diet, as they can cause bloating if overfed.

Tankmates:

Yellow Galaxy Super Delta Bettas can be housed with a variety of peaceful tankmates, including:

  • Small Tetras: Such as Neon Tetras or Harlequin Rasboras.
  • Bottom-Dwellers: Corydoras catfish or Kuhli loaches, which are generally non-aggressive.
  • Peaceful Invertebrates: Such as Amano shrimp or snails can coexist well with bettas.

Avoid housing them with aggressive species or other male bettas to prevent stress or injury.

Breeding:

Breeding Yellow Galaxy Super Delta Bettas can be a rewarding experience:

  • Breeding Setup: A separate breeding tank with shallow water (about 15 cm or 6 inches deep) is recommended. The water should be warm (26°C to 28°C or 79°F to 82°F) and slightly acidic (pH 6.0-6.5).
  • Spawning Behaviour: The male will build a bubble nest and court the female. After spawning, the male will gather the eggs into the nest and guard them until they hatch, which typically takes 24-48 hours.
  • Fry Care: Once the fry are free-swimming, the male should be removed to prevent him from eating them. The fry can be fed with infusoria or newly hatched brine shrimp.

Special Considerations:

  • Water Quality: Regular monitoring and maintenance of water quality are crucial for the health of Yellow Galaxy Super Delta Bettas.
  • Stress Factors: These fish can be sensitive to changes in water parameters, so a stable environment is essential for their well-being.
