Overview:
Micranthemum callitrichoides “Cuba”, commonly known as Dwarf Baby Tears, is one of the most sought‑after carpet plants in the aquarium hobby. It produces tiny, bright green leaves that grow close to the substrate and spread outward, forming a dense, lush carpet that enhances the foreground of planted aquariums.
This species is prized in aqua scaping for its delicate texture and vibrant colour, creating a natural, pristine look reminiscent of underwater meadows. Under ideal conditions, “Cuba” can form a carpet that provides excellent contrast to taller background plants and hardscape features.
Care and Growth:
To achieve a thick, healthy carpet, provide medium to high lighting and inject CO₂ — this plant responds strongly to good light and carbon supplementation. A nutrient‑rich substrate (or root tabs) supports steady growth. Plant individual stems or small portions close together in the foreground to encourage spreading, and trim regularly to promote new shoots and maintain an even carpet.
Without adequate light and CO₂, growth may be slower and looser, with taller, less compact stems forming. Stable water conditions and regular fertilisation help keep “Cuba” vibrant and thriving.
Key Features:

- Thrives under medium to high lighting
- CO₂ supplementation greatly boosts growth and density
