Overview:
Aponogeton boivinianus is a large, impressive aquarium plant prized for its long, crinkled leaves and rich green to reddish-brown colouration. Originating from Madagascar, this species is known for its dramatic presence and fast growth once established, making it a standout focal plant in larger aquariums.
Its flowing, textured leaves add movement and a natural elegance to aquascapes. Due to its size, Aponogeton boivinianus is best suited to spacious tanks where it has room to fully develop.
Care and Growth:
This plant thrives under medium to high lighting and benefits from a nutrient-rich substrate, as it is a heavy root feeder. CO₂ injection can enhance growth rate and leaf size but is not essential. Root tabs are strongly recommended to support healthy development.
Like other Aponogeton species, it may enter a natural dormant phase where growth slows or leaves die back. During this time, reduce lighting and fertilisation slightly until new growth resumes. Propagation occurs naturally via bulb division.
