Blue-Faced Angel

The Blue-Faced Angel is a striking and colorful species, recognized by its vibrant blue face, yellow body, and intricate patterning. It is a larger angelfish, best suited for well-maintained, spacious marine aquariums with plenty of hiding spaces and live rock.

Scientific Name:

Pomacanthus xanthometopon

Reefsafe:

No

General Size Specifications:

This species can grow up to 15 inches (38 cm) in length.

Habitat:

Native to the Indo-Pacific region, the Blue-Faced Angel is commonly found in coral-rich reefs and lagoons, often hiding among crevices and feeding on sponges and algae.

Approx Lifespan:

In captivity, the Blue-Faced Angel can live up to 10-15 years with proper care.

Feeding and Diet:

This species is omnivorous, feeding on sponges, algae, and small invertebrates. A diet of high-quality marine foods, including algae-based pellets, frozen shrimp, and sponge-based preparations, is recommended to maintain its health and vibrant colors.

Breeding:

Breeding in captivity is very rare due to the size and environmental needs of the Blue-Faced Angel. Specific conditions, such as a very large tank and stable water parameters, are necessary to encourage spawning.
