Fireball Angel

The Fireball Angel is a vibrant and eye-catching marine species, known for its striking red and orange coloration that resembles a glowing ember. This captivating fish adds a bold splash of colour to reef aquariums and is well-suited to both beginner and experienced aquarists due to its adaptable nature.

Scientific Name

Centropyge acanthops

Reefsafe

Generally considered reef safe, but may nip at corals or invertebrates in some cases

General Size Specifications

This species typically grows up to 3-4 inches (7-10 cm) in length.

Habitat

Native to the Western Indian Ocean, the Fireball Angel is commonly found in coral reef environments with plenty of rockwork and hiding spaces. It prefers areas where it can graze and take shelter among crevices and reef structures.

Approx Lifespan

With proper care, this species can live for 5-10 years in captivity.

Feeding and Diet

This omnivorous species requires a varied diet to maintain its health and vibrant colouration. A balanced feeding routine should include both plant-based and protein-rich foods, such as algae-based preparations, frozen foods, and high-quality prepared diets.

Breeding

Breeding in captivity is uncommon. In the wild, they form harems and engage in spawning behaviours where eggs are released into the water column and fertilised externally. Replicating these conditions in an aquarium environment is challenging.
