  • Model: GOLD HONEY DWARF GOURAMI

Description

  • Size: Gold Honey Gouramis grow to about 2 to 3 inches (5–7 cm).

  • Color: They have a golden yellow body with a shimmering or iridescent sheen. Males tend to be more vibrant in color, while females are slightly duller.

  • Behavior: These fish are peaceful and non-aggressive, making them great additions to a community tank. They are relatively shy and prefer calm environments, often found in the mid-levels of the aquarium.

Aquarium Care

Tank Size

  • A minimum of 10 gallons (38 liters) is ideal for a pair of Gold Honey Gouramis. Larger tanks (20 gallons or more) are even better, especially if you plan to keep other fish.

Water Parameters

  • Temperature: They prefer warm water, ideally between 74°F and 82°F (23°C to 28°C).

  • pH: A slightly acidic to neutral pH of 6.0 to 7.5.

  • KH (Carbonate Hardness): A KH range of 3 to 6 dKH is ideal. This helps maintain stable pH levels, which is essential for their well-being.

  • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water (4–12 dGH) is best.

  • Water Quality: Regular water changes (about 20–30% weekly) and a good filter are crucial to maintain clean, well-oxygenated water.

Diet

  • Gold Honey Gouramis are omnivores, so their diet should include:

    • High-quality flakes or pellets for omnivores

    • Live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms

    • Blanched vegetables like zucchini, spinach, or peas can be added for variety.

  • They may also graze on algae in the tank.

Tank Setup

  • Substrate: A soft substrate like fine gravel or sand works well.

  • Aquascaping: Provide plenty of plants, especially floating plants, as they enjoy hiding among them. Driftwood and rocks can also be used to create hiding spots.

  • Lighting: Moderate lighting is sufficient. Gold Honey Gouramis prefer slightly dimmer conditions, so avoid very bright lighting.

  • Water Movement: They prefer low water flow and calm waters, so use a gentle filter or sponge filter.

Tank Mates

  • Gold Honey Gouramis are peaceful and can live with a variety of non-aggressive fish such as:

    • Tetras

    • Corydoras Catfish

    • Small peaceful community fish (e.g., Neon Tetras, Rasboras, and Small Danios)

  • They can be kept in groups of one male with several females, but avoid keeping more than one male in smaller tanks, as they can become territorial.

Breeding

  • Breeding is possible in a well-maintained tank with a pair. The male will build a bubble nest at the surface of the water, where the female will lay her eggs. After fertilization, the male will guard the nest until the eggs hatch. The fry are delicate and require special care, such as infusoria or finely crushed food.

Summary

  • Gold Honey Gouramis need a minimum of 10 gallons of water and prefer warm water (74°F to 82°F) with a pH of 6.0 to 7.5.

  • A KH of 3 to 6 dKH is ideal to maintain stable pH and water conditions.

  • They are omnivores and enjoy a varied diet of high-quality flakes/pellets, frozen/live foods, and blanched vegetables.

  • These gouramis are peaceful, so they do well with Tetras, Corydoras, and other non-aggressive tank mates.

  • Keep them in low-flow water with moderate lighting and provide plenty of hiding spots.
