Overview:

Crinum calamistratum is a highly distinctive aquarium plant, instantly recognisable by its long, narrow, tightly curled leaves that create a dramatic, flowing appearance. Native to fast-flowing rivers in West Africa, this species adds movement and a unique sculptural quality to planted aquariums.

Its slow growth and unusual form make it an excellent focal or accent plant, particularly in nature-style and river-themed aquascapes. Crinum calamistratum is best suited to larger aquariums where its leaves have space to arch and flow naturally.

Care and Growth:

This plant grows well under low to moderate lighting and prefers stable water parameters with gentle to moderate flow. CO₂ injection is not essential but can improve overall growth. A nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs are recommended, as Crinum calamistratum is a root feeder.

Growth is slow but steady once established. The bulb should be planted partially above the substrate to prevent rot. Propagation occurs naturally via bulb offsets over time.
