Product Overview
Red Sea Aiptasia-X is a unique patent pending formula developed to effectively treat pest anemones including Aiptasia sp., Anemonia majano and Boloceroides sp. Commonly introduced through live rock or corals, Aiptasia (glass anemones) can rapidly spread in reef aquariums, damaging corals and other marine livestock.
Unlike many traditional treatments that cause Aiptasia to retract and release planula (larvae), potentially worsening infestations, Aiptasia-X overcomes these issues with its specially developed formula. The treatment forms a thick, adhesive material that is sensed as food, stimulating the anemone to expand and ingest it.
Once applied, the adhesive seals the anemone’s mouth, preventing the release of planula. Within minutes, the Aiptasia implodes, eradicating both the anemone and its larvae. Aiptasia-X is completely reef-safe, and any excess material not ingested will decay harmlessly over time without adverse effects on sessile invertebrates.
