Practical changes to the JBL Test Combi Set
In response to numerous requests from many specialists, JBL has taken the TH- (GH) Test out of the small test case (JBL Test Combi Set) and substituted it with the more relevant Iron-Test.
At last a manufacturer has been courageous enough to remove the TH- (GH) Test from the starter test set. Although the TH- (GH) Test is often asked for, it is actually less important in practice. Aquarium keepers continue to diligently measure the total hardness (TH) of Germany’s aquarium water, without understanding that carbonate hardness (CH) is the decisive factor which ensures the proper functioning of an aquarium. It is the CH which stabilises the pH value, not the frequently measured TH! For the really lazy aquarium keeper, astronomically high TH levels are an indication that they have completely misunderstood the words “change of water” and have instead just topped up the water every time. This results in a drastic rise in TH.
Some fish insist on a correctly adjusted TH level if they are produce offspring. But the most important factor remains the CH level!
The Iron Test (Fe) is a practical addition to JBL´s starter case. This indicates the level of fertilisers in the aquarium and shows the aquarium keeper quickly and simply how much fertiliser, if any, has been added to the aquarium."
