Hydrocotyle vulgaris

Overview:

Hydrocotyle vulgaris, commonly known as Common Pennywort, is a charming creeping marginal pond plant valued for its attractive round, bright green leaves and delicate white flowers that appear during the summer months. Its spreading growth habit makes it an excellent choice for softening pond edges, naturalising damp areas, and creating a lush, wildlife-friendly environment. This versatile aquatic plant performs well both in shallow water and consistently moist soil.

Thrives in full sun to partial shade. A sunny position encourages vigorous growth, while partial shade is well tolerated.

  • Excellent for softening hard pond edges and blending aquatic planting
  • Provides valuable shelter for amphibians, insects, and other aquatic wildlife
