Meiacanthus oualanensis, commonly known as the canary fang blenny or the canary blenny, is a species of combtooth blenny found in coral reefs in the western Pacific Ocean. This fish is particularly known for its vibrant yellow coloration, which makes it a popular choice among aquarium enthusiasts.

The distinctive feature of Meiacanthus oualanensis, like other blennies in the genus Meiacanthus, is its fangs. These are actually modified canine teeth that it uses for defence. When threatened, the canary blenny can deliver a bite that injects venom into the aggressor. The venom is mild but can cause temporary discomfort and deter predators, providing the blenny with a unique form of protection.

Canary blennies typically reach about 8 to 10 centimetres in length. They prefer shallow waters and are often found hiding among rocks and corals where they can blend in with their surroundings, despite their bright coloration. Their diet mainly consists of small crustaceans and other invertebrates.

In terms of behaviour, Meiacanthus oualanensis is known for being relatively peaceful but may exhibit territorial aggression towards other blennies. They are oviparous, with males often guarding and aerating the eggs after the female lays them.
