Product description
The JBL Ammonium Test Set is designed for the measurement and routine control of the ammonium/ammonia content in freshwater and saltwater within the range 0.25 to 6,0 mg/l (ppm). The compensation method developed specially by JBL allows precise and reliable results to be obtained even in moderately discoloured aquarium water, e.g. caused by peat filters and disease treatment.
(Recommended level max.: 0.25 mg/l NH4)

Problem solutions
Ammonium is considered to be the first decomposition stage in the nitrogen cycle. It consists of proteins, which are converted by heterotrophic bacteria to ammonium. In addition, fish excrete a percentage of their bodily weight into the water every day in the form of ammonium. Ammonium is non-toxic, but, with increasing pH-levels, is converted to an ever-greater degree into toxic ammonia. If symptoms of poisoning appear in the pond or aquarium, it is important that the ammonium level is measured using the JBL Ammonium Test Set, in addition to nitrite. The enclosed table shows the resulting ammoniac content based on the pH-level. If ammonia levels of over 0.25 mg/l are measured, the pH-level must immediately be reduced slightly and the ammonium eliminated in the long term using JBL AmmoEX, as well as the bacterial decomposition process activated with JBL Denitrol (pollutant-decomposing bacteria). After the filters have been cleaned or medications have been used, bacteria which break down ammonium and nitrite are reintroduced to the filter using JBL Filterstart."
