The Chocolate Lyretail Killifish is a stunning colour morph of the Lyretail Killifish. The smouldering chocolate coloration dramatically emphasizes the ornate colour pattern of the Chocolate Lyretail Killifish. The deep red and orange coloration beautifully complements the dominant chocolate coloration.

Similar to other Killifish, the coloration of the Chocolate Lyretail Killifish is an absorbing multitude of iridescent colours best represented by the male. In addition to the namesake lyre tail, the dorsal and anal fins of the male Chocolate LyretailKillifish terminate in a distinct spike. The Chocolate Lyretail Killifish can adapt to a variety of water conditions, making this Killifish a great choice for beginners and enthusiasts alike.

Provided with proper water parameters and good water quality, the Chocolate Lyretail Killifish does well in a peaceful community aquarium.

The name Killifish is derived from the Dutch word meaning ditch or channel where these brilliantly coloured fish are found in the wild. To best recreate the shallow pool environment from which the Chocolate Lyretail Killifish hails from, aquascape the aquarium with driftwood, roots, and rocks for ample hiding places.

Use live plants along the sides and rear of the aquarium and finish with a cover of floating plants. Be sure to leave an open swimming area in the center of the aquarium. To help bring out the best coloration in the Chocolate Lyretail Killifish, consider using dark substrate. A tight-fitting cover is recommended since the Chocolate Lyretail Killifish is a jumper.

This species of Killifish is a non-annual species, meaning it inhabits permanent and semi-permanent bodies of water in the wild. When breeding the Chocolate Lyretail Killifish, the eggs do not need to be removed from the water after spawning.
