Eleocharis vivipara

Eleocharis vivipara with the common name Umbrella Hairgrass is a very tall grass with the height of 15-50cm. As a result of this height it is popular in breeding tanks as it provides good cover and hiding places for fry. E.vivipara is a relatively easy plant to grow and does well when light availability is high and CO2 is available. E.vivipara is perfect as a background plant. One must be aware, that due to its dense growth habitat it can gather and retain both detritus and algae which may cause problems in your tank. Regular water changes, a decent water flow and a smaller bio-load will help prevent this problem. Propagation is possible by splitting the runners of rhizomes and replanting.
