Staurogyne repens from the family Acanthaceae originates from the Rio Cristalino in the southern Amazonas of Brazil and can grow to a height of 3 cm - 10 cm and a width of 5 cm - 10 cm. S. repens is a freshly green, robust plant with stiff brownish stems. While planting in the aquarium, the longest upright shoots should be removed. This will promote the growth of new horizontally creeping shoots from the base of the plant and it will gradually inhabit the substrate. If the S. repens was previously grown emergent, the emergent leaves will die off or will need to be removed during planting. In order to receive the best results and to promote medium to bright light, with supplementation of CO2 and nutrients is needed. S. repens is an excellent foreground plant that is suitable for a nano aquaria because of its slow and creeping growth and hardy nature.
