Pogostemon erectus from the family Lamiaceae originates from India and can grow to a height of 15 cm - 40 cm. It was first introduced as Rotala verticillaris but has since been identified as a Pogostemon species. P. erectus is bright green in colour with conifer-like stems. P. erectus can survive in both soft and hard water as long as there is an adequate supply of CO2. Plenty of Nitrogen promotes strong growth. P. erectus is best suited as a background plant and is often used as a focal point within an aquarium. High light intensities assist’s P. erectus to remain compact. P. erectus has moderate growth and vigorous roots.
