Contrary to its name Bacopa australis is not actually Australian, but is Brazilian in origin. It is easy to grow and can grow in a wide range of aquarium conditions; but when conditions are right Bacopa australis is known to form a decorative light green cushion by creeping along the surface of the substrate. In good light the leaves will grow with a reddish tinge. Propagation easily occurs by removing side shoots and planting in substrate. Usually Bacopa australis grows compactly on its own, it is important however to make sure that light is penetrating to the lower regions of the stem to stop loss of leaves.
